How to play Wordle
Find the hidden five-letter word in six guesses. Enter a valid word using your keyboard or the on-screen keys, then press Enter. The tiles change color after each guess to show which letters you have found.
- Green: the letter is correct and in the right position.
- Yellow: the letter is in the answer but belongs in another position.
- Gray: the letter is not in the answer, or you guessed more copies than the answer contains.
Daily Wordle or unlimited practice
Daily mode gives everyone the same five-letter puzzle for the day and lets you build a streak. Unlimited mode creates another puzzle whenever you finish, so you can keep practising without waiting for tomorrow's Wordle.
Turn on hard mode when you want an extra challenge. It requires you to keep confirmed green letters in place and include yellow letters in every later guess.
Wordle strategy: make every guess count
A good Wordle strategy is about learning as much as possible from each guess. Use the tile feedback to narrow the answer, then choose your next word based on what you still need to discover.
- Start with useful letter coverage. Choose an opening word with five different letters, including common consonants and at least one frequent vowel. This gives you more information than repeating a letter before you have evidence that it appears twice.
- Keep every green letter in place. A green tile confirms both the letter and its position. Treat that position as fixed in every later guess.
- Move yellow letters to new positions. A yellow tile confirms that the letter is in the answer, but not where you placed it. Keep the letter and test a different position.
- Track gray letters and duplicates carefully. Gray feedback usually rules out a letter, but when a guess contains repeated letters, it can also show that the answer contains fewer copies than you guessed.
- Choose guesses that separate likely answers. When several words fit, prefer a guess that tests different uncertain letters. Do not automatically play the first familiar candidate if another guess can reveal more.
Choose an informative starting word
There is no single opener that guarantees a win. Words such as SLATE, CRANE, TRACE and STARE test different combinations of common letters. Compare the best Wordle starting words and settle on an opener whose feedback you can interpret consistently.
Make the remaining guesses work harder
After each row, update the letters you know, the positions they can occupy and the letters that are no longer possible. If you have several candidates left, a word that tests multiple uncertain letters can be more useful than a narrow guess. As the number of remaining tries falls, balance information gathering with the need to submit a possible answer.
Use a solver when the pattern gets complicated
Repeated letters and several yellow clues can be difficult to track mentally. The Wordle solver filters candidates using your feedback, while the five-letter word finder helps search by known letters and positions.
